GRUSONN WELLNESS CAFE @ SKYPOD SQUARE PUCHONG

“Healthy food tastes nasty!” This is what I normally hear from people who choose not to eat a healthy diet. They just assume that healthy food taste bland and sometimes downright unpalatable. As you can see, junk food and processed food is literally engineered to be addictive. It's not a conspiracy theory, it's just a business strategy. But more and more people are trending toward more health-conscious eating these days. They pay more attention to the nutrition values when they buy/eat, they become more aware of the calories or the energy value of the food they are taking and are willing to pay more for healthier food. Well, depending on how you define 'healthy', my point is, real food is healthy and real food tastes incredibly good. It is satisfying and it makes my body feel good, since my body recognizes what I'm feeding it when I'm eating real food. Delicious food + feel great as a result = a win-win situation :D

Grusonn Wellness Cafe is a newly opened cafe in Puchong (Grand opening was a month ago, on the 16th of September) that emphasizes on healthy cooking and tasty food. As they claimed: "Grusonn Wellness Cafe is a concept cafe that care for your health. We carefully design the dishes, choose the best ingredients and cook them in a healthy way." They get fresh ingredients everyday from wholesale markets and also from their very own mushroom farm, Ganofarm. Being a mushroom fan, I just HAD to check this place out!

Here's what we had:
Classic Bruschetta (RM14): Toasted bread topped with fresh and creamy mushroom topping and diced tomatoes. Yumzzz!
Black Truffle Mushroom Soup (RM15): Homemade mushroom soup, topped with fried enoki, drizzled with black truffle oil.
Mushroom & Chicken Spicy Rice (RM25).
Chicken infused with mushrooms & mixed peppers on a skewer, served on a bed of spicy rice with Ganofarm's pickled mushrooms.
I loved this - colorful, flavorful and the chicken was juicy! The delicious spicy Basmati rice complimented the kebabs perfectly. It was mild, just nice for me since I don't have high tolerance for spicy food. And the pickled mushrooms? OH.SO.SOUR, but I liked it! They were surprisingly delicious and they made my taste buds dance around!! Haha.

Grusonn Super Chick (RM33): Stuffed chicken breast fillet with mozzarella cheese, mixed mushrooms (shiitake, oyster and button mushrooms) and carrots, served on a bed of potato gratin and thyme-raisin sauce.
You absolutely must try this winning combination of chicken breasts, mozzarella and mushrooms! It was FABULOUS and we loved it!!! The chicken was extremely moist and the flavors blended so well. This is some dang good comfort food :D

Mushroom Brown Rice & Black Pepper Chicken (RM15): Stir-fried chicken cubes with Sarawak black pepper and capsicum, served with mushroom brown rice, daily fresh picked salad and Ganofarm's pickled mushroom.
Chapati & Curry Chicken (RM15).
These two were on their set lunch menu. Seeing as we were there for dinner, the waiter told us we could still order the food listed in the set menu, just that beverages won't be included as stated. I thought the Mushroom Brown Rice & Black Pepper Chicken was so so only. It lacked flavor and oomph, compared to the Mushroom & Chicken Spicy Rice and Grusonn Super Chick. My hubby had the Chapati & Curry Chicken: Slow-roasted handmade whole wheat flour chapati, served with homemade Kapitan curry chicken and daily fresh picked salad. If you are a vegetarian, you can choose to eat it with veggie curry. I didn't try this (not a fan), but hubby said the chapati was a lil oily.

Verdict:
Contrary to what you may believe, you don't always have to sacrifice flavor for nutrition. The underlying assumption that healthy food tastes bad is inherently false :P We definitely walked out of Grusonn Wellness Cafe feeling happy, fulfilled and, well, healthier! I would highly recommend this place to all mushroom lovers (like me!!) and people who are into healthy and delicious food. I am soooo gonna bring my parents here during their next visit. Like they say, Eat healthy, live healthy, smile and SROOM for good health everyday!!

YACON SOUP WITH CORN AND CARROT

Was shopping at the usual supermarket recently when I saw a lady promoting something which, from far, looked like sweet potatoes to me. I didn't pay attention to her til she called out to me and handed me a piece to sample. She was promoting organic yacons, not sweet potato. The moment I put it into my mouth, I remembered eating this looong time ago, but because I seldom see it in the supermarkets, I had totally forgotten about such a thing.  The yacon is a traditionally grown for its crisp, sweet-tasting, tuberous roots. Though the root looks like a   sweet potato, the taste and texture are completely different. Its crispy texture, juiciness and mildly sweet taste makes it somewhat similar to water chestnut or snow pear. It can be eaten raw or cook. It is said that yacon  is very high in fiber and low in calories which makes it a healthy and nutritious snack.   Some of the health benefits of yacon include its ability to regulate blood sugar levels, lower 'bad'  choles

CHINESE ARROWROOT SOUP WITH PORK BONES

This is the simple version of the Chinese arrowroot soup (Also known as 粉葛湯 'Fun Kot Tong' in Cantonese). Our family love drinking this soup. It is tasty and cooking it with pork bones and dried squid makes it sweet and refreshing. Some people who like boiling arrowroot together with lotus roots or peanuts, and my mother-in-law usually boils it on its own and drink as 'cooling' tea. Naturally sweet and tasty. If you don't like seafood, you can choose to omit the dried squid. This is how the Chinese arrowroot looks like.  The arrowroot is a type of root plant similar to taro, potato or tapioca. However, it is harder in texture and incredibly starchy. When it is cut up, it has patterns that looks like the ages of a tree trunk. It is usually made into powder and used as thicken agent in cooking. The arrowroot is high in protein and fiber which is very beneficial to our body. Ingredients: 1 medium-sized Chinese arrowroot (Approx 700g) 10 red dates,

LEAN'S @ ATRIA SHOPPING GALLERY

Tong sui are a Cantonese specialty. If you've grown up in a Cantonese family, you must have had tong sui before. The term 'tong sui' literally means 'sugar water'. It is a collective term for any sweet, warm soup or custard served as a dessert at the end of a meal in Cantonese cuisine. My dad is a huge fan of tong sui : red bean soup, peanut soup, barley ginkgo and black sesame soup being his favorite. I'm not really a tong sui person but I remember seeing this Lean's place in Atria that sells a variety of desserts, including tong sui , nyonya kuihs and light meals, so I brought my dad there to try when my parents came over. It was afternoon teatime when we arrived. We were feeling a little hungry, so we ordered 2 nasi lemak bungkus, a cucur udang, steam cakes for my LO, black sesame cream, barley ginkgo and bubur cha cha. Nasi Lemak bungkus (RM3.70). Cucur udang (RM3). Pandan and vanilla steam cake (RM1.50 each). Nasi lemak is a famous lo
