This is a savory dish that goes extremely well with piping hot white rice. Pork belly works best for this because of its high fat content. The taste is addictive and mouth-watering.

Best served with a hot bowl of rice :)

Ingredients:

(Serves 2)

  • 300g pork belly, cut into small pieces
  • 1 star anise
  • 3 cloves of garlic, lightly crushed
  • 2 hard-boil egg, shelled
  • 1 tbsp of dark soya sauce, or until it reaches your desired color
  • 2 tbsp of light soya sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp of sugar
  • Water

  1. Heat oil, fry garlic and star anise til fragrant. Add pork belly and fry for 1 minute.
  2. Add other ingredients and just enough water to cover the pork belly. Bring water to boil, lower heat and simmer for 40 minutes, or til meat is tender and sauce is slightly thickened.
  3. Add egg during half time (after 20 minutes)

*You can braise it longer (top up water if necessary) if you prefer the meat to be softer, but not too long as the meat will become too soft and break apart.
