CAFFE PASCUCCI @ TROPICANA CITY MALL

We used to patronize the Tropicana City mall in the past, before Atria Shopping Mall came along, but now it is just somewhere we'll go only when everywhere else is crowded or there's a heavy traffic to somewhere further >.< With the school holidays and Christmas just around the corner, everywhere is crowded on the recent weekends and we had trouble finding parking at One Utama Mall the week before (Took us quite some time to get hold of one). So, last weekend we decided to head to Tropicana City Mall instead since I needed to get a few grocery stuffs and contact lenses. Had to pre-order them (coz they didn't have the right corrective power last week) and went over to collect today. It started raining heavily right after we reached, therefore we thought we might as well sit down to have a cup of coffee while waiting for the rain to stop, and this Caffe Pascucci looked like a pretty nice place to chill.

The waiter brought us the menu (which looked like some newsletters) right after we took our seats. After browsing through, we ordered a slice of Orange Cake, a Strawberry & Vanilla Panna Cotta, a Sorbetto al Caffe, a Latte and Filter of the Day.
The Orange Cake.
Strawberry & Vanilla Panna Cotta (RM6)
The cake and panna cotta arrived first. The cake looked pretty good but the texture was dry and it was a lil too sweet for my liking. The panna cotta was kinda disappointing too. To me, a good panna cotta should be silky smooth and just firm, yet jiggly/quivers when you touch it. Not too sweet, which was good, but it wasn't as creamy, light or smooth as I hoped it would be.
As you can see, the custard was a little 'cheesy', perhaps too much gelatin...
Still no sign of our drinks though we were almost done with our desserts. We called for the waiter, he said he would check for us and finally, they arrived shortly afterwards.
Sorbetto al Caffe (RM10).
Latte (RM 9).
Filter of the Day (RM10) - It's basically the Coffee of the Day. "She loves her coffee sweet?" I'm afraid not :P
Sorbetto al Caffe - Iced cream coffee with chocolate topping. The menu says: Our coffee sorbet is prepared with espresso and creamy basics such as very fresh milk and cream poured into an ice-cream churn, where the mixture is brought to the perfect temperature to enhance flavor and creaminess. Ours came with 3 roasted coffee beans instead of chocolate toppings. It was pretty decent, but I thought it could have been better with a stronger coffee flavor. The other two drinks were so so. My hubby did ask the waiter (a foreign worker) about the origins of the Filter of the Day but couldn't make out what he said -_-"
Caffe Pascucci is located on G floor, opposite Starbucks.

Verdict: If you want a cosy place to hangout and don't mind the quality of the food and coffee, then you will like Caffe Pascucci.

YACON SOUP WITH CORN AND CARROT

Was shopping at the usual supermarket recently when I saw a lady promoting something which, from far, looked like sweet potatoes to me. I didn't pay attention to her til she called out to me and handed me a piece to sample. She was promoting organic yacons, not sweet potato. The moment I put it into my mouth, I remembered eating this looong time ago, but because I seldom see it in the supermarkets, I had totally forgotten about such a thing.  The yacon is a traditionally grown for its crisp, sweet-tasting, tuberous roots. Though the root looks like a   sweet potato, the taste and texture are completely different. Its crispy texture, juiciness and mildly sweet taste makes it somewhat similar to water chestnut or snow pear. It can be eaten raw or cook. It is said that yacon  is very high in fiber and low in calories which makes it a healthy and nutritious snack.   Some of the health benefits of yacon include its ability to regulate blood sugar ...

LEAN'S @ ATRIA SHOPPING GALLERY

Tong sui are a Cantonese specialty. If you've grown up in a Cantonese family, you must have had tong sui before. The term 'tong sui' literally means 'sugar water'. It is a collective term for any sweet, warm soup or custard served as a dessert at the end of a meal in Cantonese cuisine. My dad is a huge fan of tong sui : red bean soup, peanut soup, barley ginkgo and black sesame soup being his favorite. I'm not really a tong sui person but I remember seeing this Lean's place in Atria that sells a variety of desserts, including tong sui , nyonya kuihs and light meals, so I brought my dad there to try when my parents came over. It was afternoon teatime when we arrived. We were feeling a little hungry, so we ordered 2 nasi lemak bungkus, a cucur udang, steam cakes for my LO, black sesame cream, barley ginkgo and bubur cha cha. Nasi Lemak bungkus (RM3.70). Cucur udang (RM3). Pandan and vanilla steam cake (RM1.50 each). Nasi lemak is a famous lo...

LOTUS ROOT SOUP V BLACK BEANS, WALNUTS & LOTUS SEEDS

My all time favorite: lotus root! This soup is said to be suitable for those with weak 'qi' & blood and blurry vision. It's also suitable to be taken during the confinement period as black beans can help replenish blood, promote secretion of breast milk and brighten eyesight. Yummy and nutritious.
